British companies have secured almost all the £5bn worth of contracts to build the venues for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The Daily Telegraph reports that Government figures out today (November 23) will show that 98 per cent of contracts awarded by the Olympic Delivery Authority have gone to more than 1,000 British firms.
Officials claim they are on course to complete the work by the summer of 2011, a year before the deadline.
In a foreword to a Government report published today, Olympics minister Tessa Jowell said: “Whether for a basketball arena from Glasgow or structural decking from Poole, wetland planting from Norfolk or steel reinforcements from Neat, this a powerful illustration of how London 2012 is helping the whole of the country to ride out the downturn and plan for recovery.”
The ODA will announce today that it is exceeding its targets for environmental sustainability. More than 90 per cent of construction waste is being re-used on the site, and more than 60 per cent of materials used are being delivered by rail or water.
