BMW Sauber uncertainty hits sponsor talks
 24/11/2009

The BMW Sauber Formula One team says it still does not know what the future holds for next season.

The team missed out on the final grid slot to Lotus after BMW announced it was pulling out of the sport. Toyota’s subsequent decision to quit means there is now an extra spot available but the FIA has not yet ruled on who will get the place.

Autosport reports that the uncertainty has meant that talks with sponsors have been put on hold. BMW motorsport director Maria Theissen said: “The situation has not changed. The team still does not have a grid slot. We expect to get one, but it is not done yet. Obviously the delay makes it difficult for negotiations with drivers and sponsors.”

The FIA is waiting for clarification on Toyota’s legal position after it signed a Concorde Agreement committing it to F1 until 2012. The sport’s governing body cannot make a decision on the 13th slot until that situation has been cleared up.
