The quality of the football in the Premier League is what makes it one of the most valuable properties in sport, according to former Chelsea and Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon.
Speaking to the Asian Football Confederation, Kenyon said that the value of the league’s biggest clubs and the competition’s global appeal was all driven by what happened on the pitch.
“The name of the game is quality,” Kenyon commented. “The quality of the competition is what ultimately drives the value of the product.
“Whether it is the World Cup, regional championships, Champions League or domestic league, the quality of the football is the common denominator.”
Kenyon praised the AFC for bringing together key officials from clubs and leagues to discuss the way forward.
He added: “Over the past several years, European clubs have found great value in coming together to discuss real club issues across many different countries. And the value of that, we found out to be invaluable.”
