The British Olympic Association (BOA) has confirmed that the British Ski and Snowsport Federation (BSSF) has gone into administration – but has vowed that it will not affect athletes’ preparations for the Winter Olympics, which begin on Friday (Feb 12).
It emerged last month that the BSSF, which trades under the name Snowsport GB, needed to find £200,000 to stay in business, leading to speculation about whether up to 15 athletes would be able to participate in the Winter Games in Vancouver.
A BOA subsidiary will take over as governing body until after the Games, allowing the athletes to compete, but there are fears that the problems may have disrupted their preparations.
BOA boss Lord Moynihan said: “It is with great regret that one of our governing bodies has gone into administration, particularly at such a critical time.
"The athletes and coaches can rest assured that we will work around the clock to support them.”
