Commonwealth Games Federation suspends Fiji
 13/10/2009

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has suspended Fiji's membership, but it is hopeful the island nation will still be able to compete at next year's Games in New Delhi.

Fiji's suspension from the Commonwealth earlier this year meant the CGF had no option but to follow suit.

CGF president Mike Fennell says his organisation will push for sport to be removed from the list of sanctions imposed on Fiji.

But Oceania Athletics Association executive director Yvonne Mullins says any change is unlikely.

I'm not sure that we've got too much hope on our side, but I think we've got to do whatever we can to try and support our athletes," she said.

"In 2010 there will be other opportunities for them to compete, but it's still never the same as going out as a national team at the Commonwealth Games."
