Location: Lilleshall National Sports Centre
Type of Contract: Permanent (Subject to the continuation of Lottery funding)
Following a strategic review and re-structuring of its technical activities, British Gymnastics is seeking to recruit a Performance Director with specific responsibilities for the Olympic outcomes in the four UK Sport Lottery funded disciplines: Women’s Artistic; Trampoline; Men’s Artistic and Rhythmic.
Reporting to the Olympic Performance Sub Committee of British Gymnastics, the successful candidate will have the overall responsibility for delivering the targets agreed with UK Sport between now and the London Olympic Games in 2012.
Working closely with the discipline specific Technical Directors and programme coaches, the successful appointee will be responsible for the strategic leadership, direction and management of the World Class Programmes to achieve medal-winning success at World Championships and Olympic Games.
This extremely challenging post will require a dynamic, strong and focused individual able to drive a medal winning culture amongst performers, NGB staff, personal coaches, clubs and support service providers.
The appointee will be responsible for:
• Creating and leading a genuinely World Class Performance environment;
• Designing and implementing strategies to achieve World Class goals including models of performer selection & monitoring and strategic training & competition planning;
• Establishing and Managing the World Class budget which is currently in excess of £2M per annum.
• Appointing and managing appropriate technical and other staff, including implementing BG employee performance management and professional development systems;
• Leading an expert and innovative structure of science and medicine support, making use of service providers such as the EIS, home nations’ sports institutes, consultants and other sources of expertise;
• Liaison and reporting to UK Sport on all aspects of the programme; and
• Developing strong international relations in pursuit of performance goals.
The appointee will have a demonstrated record of medal winning success in high performance sport at World and Olympic level and will have a personal commitment to excellence.
They must demonstrate outstanding skills in:
• Strategic performance planning at both intra and inter disciplinary levels;
• Engaging stakeholders and driving change;
• Leadership and inter personal communications;
• Team, colleague, and self development;
• The design and operation of a multidisciplinary environment; and
• Administrative and financial planning & reporting.
The appointee will probably have a degree in a sports-related discipline and 8 or more years experience in high performance sport, with demonstrable medal winning credentials. They will be thoroughly committed to BG’s success at and in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
