The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Professional Cricketers Association (PCA) work in close partnership to provide world class Performance Lifestyle (PL) support to aspiring and current professional cricketers.

The ECB Science and Medicine Department aims to “Establish and sustain a competitive advantage for England Teams through innovative programmes to ensure England players are physically and psychologically the best prepared in world cricket.”

As part of this drive, the ECB is seeking applications from experienced advisors. The role combines management responsibility for Performance Lifestyle services throughout the ECB’s performance pathway and First Class Counties (FCCs) with innovative delivery of an elite player lifestyle programme to the England Performance Programme (formerly National Academy) and two FCCs.

This full-time position will be based at the ECB National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough. However, the successful applicant will be responsible for the delivery of PL support to two FCCs and the leadership of four regional PL Advisors, which will require considerable travel within the UK. It is essential the post holder possesses a current, full, and clean driving licence.
You will need first class management, communication and presentation skills, and possess the ability to apply them in challenging environments. Experience (working within a multidisciplinary team) of the provision of career, education, and lifestyle support to elite and young aspiring performers is essential. The successful applicant will have a successful track record of developing people, extensive knowledge of the UK education system and the transitions facing people in high performance environments. You should have a postgraduate degree in a related field to Performance Lifestyle.


1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Based from the National Cricket Performance Centre the National Lead is responsible for leading and managing the delivery, development and quality assurance of the cricket PL programme.

3. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Lead the strategic development of the Performance Lifestyle Programme within the game of cricket.

· Manage the delivery of PL to ECB County Academies, PCA members and high performance squads in line with the ECB PL strategy.

· Performance manage the ECB PL Advisers (ensuring that they are focused on their core roles).

· Establish and maintain close working relationships and communication channels with programme partners (i.e. PCA, UK Sport, other professional sports and home country sports institutes).

· Deliver Performance Lifestyle to 2 County Academies, Professional staff at those counties and the ECB high performance squads.

· Work closely with National Coaches to design and develop integrated support programmes.

· Manage the delivery of PL support to players and coaches within the England Performance Programme, England Lions, and Development of Excellence programmes as appropriate and agreed with the Science and Medicine manager and Performance Director. This will include:

o Developing and delivering an elite player lifestyle programme for England players of all ages to enable them to develop a performance lifestyle that allows them to perform optimally.

o Providing support to enable (a) young players to commit fully to developing their cricket expertise whilst also being able to continue their personal / educational development and, (b) senior players to effectively plan and personally develop for a career after playing cricket.

· Attend ECB Science & Medicine Management Team, Multi-Disciplinary Practice and, Case Conference meetings as directed by the SMM.

· Work closely with the PCA to develop programme resources and meet the needs of PCA members and, integrate the delivery with PCA initiatives e.g., Performance Healthcare, Personal Development courses and PLAN.

· Work with the EIS to manage and quality assure PL provision to the women’s squad of players through the EIS regional network.

· Manage the PL annual budget.

· Submit monthly PL programme reports to the SMM and PCA Group Director.

· Undertake appropriate professional development to keep abreast of world’s best practice.

· Liaise closely with the Science and Medicine manager, and be prepared to undertake any other duties related to the work of these functions.

The National Lead for PL is responsible for the strategic development of the PL programme and, leading the PL Team’s work toward achieving it’s core objectives. This will include managing the integrated delivery of PL services to England Squads, County Academies, and County professional staff.

5. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:
· Postgraduate degree in related field to PL
· Good undergraduate honours degree in related field to PL
· Graduate Certificate in Careers Counselling for Elite Performances or equivalent.
· Extensive experience of working in World Class Sport.
· Sound knowledge of and experience in career and education guidance.
· An in-depth understanding of the issues facing high performance cricketers and the challenges of career transitions.
· Extensive experience of working with young performers.
· Extensive knowledge of the UK education system.
· Flexibility towards work schedule and willingness to travel within the UK.
· First class leadership and people management skills.
· Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
· Full Driving Licence.
· Computer literacy, including MS office, excel and databases.

Desirable:

· Demonstrated familiarity within the game of cricket / professional sport.
· Team player, able to work within a national governing body environment.
· Excellent knowledge and experience of budget control and financial management.
· Research and development experience in applied performance lifestyle support.
· Experience in the preparation and delivery of CPD Workshops and conference presentations.
· Experience of coordinating/managing PL Support Services to High Performance Sports.
