| Description |
Location: Lord's Cricket Ground, London
1. Purpose of the Job:
To develop, test, support and maintain ECB-specific applications, with particular emphasis on Play-Cricket.com.
2. Reporting to:
Development Team Leader
3. Principal Responsibilities:
Acting as part of the Development Team, develop and test software applications and components following ECB standards (or industry best-practice where these are not defined), working to agreed timescales and budgets.
Customise, develop and deliver web applications based on Microsoft SQL Server or other RDBMS’s. This includes gathering requirements, developing the data model, designing the user interface, coding front- and back-end components, testing and implementation.
Maintain and support existing applications by analysing problems and developing and testing suitable fixes or by providing acceptable workarounds.
Provide advice and support to other members of the IT department and/or users regarding application usage and issues.
Produce appropriate documentation to help users and operational and support staff to use and manage applications effectively.
Assist other members of the IT department to plan for, and implement, best practices in the fields of application development, change management and support.
Maintain an awareness of current trends in application development and bring these to the attention of IT management where there may be benefits to the ECB.
4. Nature and Scope of Job:
A. Job Context:
ECB has a vision of the UK becoming and remaining the most successful and respected cricket nation in the world. This aspiration is supported by a mission of developing the game in England and Wales from the playground to the Test arena.
The organisation has identified four objectives between 2006 and 2009 as follows:

o Building a vibrant domestic game
o Enthusing participation and interest particularly amongst young people
o Developing and maintaining successful England Teams
ECB-specific applications and the Microsoft development platform are both critical to the success of this strategy.

· Application users, including those outside the ECB

· External consultants and suppliers
5. Knowledge and Experience
Essential
Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience as a software developer, with experience of the full software development lifecycle.
Good communication skills.
At least one year’s solid experience of development in TRANSACT-SQL on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005, including extensive experience of stored procedures.
Experience of developing web-based applications using either Microsoft ASP or ASP.Net.
Experience of developing applications using XML and XSLT, including development, testing and debugging of complex XSLT templates.
Sound working knowledge of SQL Server operations, including backup and restore and DR strategies.
Sound understanding of SQL Server architecture.
Practical experience of analysing and resolving performance problems.
Good understanding of all aspects of the systems lifecycle.
Desirable
Graduate-level education. Applications will also be considered from non-graduates who can demonstrate substantial, relevant working experience.
At least one year’s full-lifecycle experience of Microsoft .Net development, from design to production and live support.
Experience of Sharepoint Services or Sharepoint portal server.
Knowledge of cricket

6. Additional Information
A major part of this role will be the maintenance and further development of http://www.play-cricket.com/, which provides a free web site for every recreational cricket club in the UK, with over 4,000 clubs currently using the system. The system has a front-end built using ASP, XML and XSLT, running against a large SQL Server 2000 database.
