UEFA - the Union of European Football Associations - is the governing body of football on the continent of Europe. UEFA is an association of associations based on representative democracy, and is the governing body of European football.

Description

Simultaneous and consecutive interpretation is of fundamental importance to successful cooperation, projects and business operations within our organisation.
Every year, UEFA manages on average 110 events (meetings, workshops, seminars, press conferences, etc.) for which interpreters are required.

In total, around 1,000 interpreter days are organised each year.

With a view to maximum efficiency in the management of interpreters, UEFA has decided to mandate an external with the full process, under the supervision of UEFA Language Services. Full details of this invitation to tender can be found below.

PURPOSE OF THE MANDATE
The mandate is to organise interpretation for all UEFA events for which this service is requested, with the exception of the final tournament of the UEFA European Football Championship (EURO), for which a separate invitation to tender may be issued.

DURATION OF MANDATE
Three years, from 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2013. Six months before the end of the mandate, a new invitation to tender will be issued.

MAIN ACTIVITIES
• To take and acknowledge receipt of requests from UEFA staff
• To recruit the necessary interpreters according to the language combinations requested
• To organise flights via the UEFA travel agency and hotel bookings via the relevant UEFA event manager, as required
• To prepare, issue and file all interpreter contracts
• To issue purchase orders using UEFA’s purchase order system and to coordinate invoicing
• To manage any changes to interpretation requests
• To act as team leader whenever possible and, when not, to appoint another interpreter to perform the role
• To compile interpretation statistics
• To explain to meeting organisers how to make the best use of interpreters’ services
• To forward meeting documents to the recruited interpreters
• To liaise between meeting organisers, speakers, chairmen and interpreters before and during meetings
• To advise on interpretation equipment

REQUIREMENTS
• Proven experience in conference interpretation in an international environment
• Proven experience in organising interpreter teams
• AIIC membership an asset
• Experience in interpreting for sports associations an asset
• Self-confidence
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
• Political sensitivity and diplomacy
• Organisational skills
• Service-minded, flexible approach
• English, French and German in language combination
• Other European language(s) an asset

HOW TO PRESENT YOUR TENDER
Tenders should be submitted to UEFA by 10 September 2010.

They should contain:

1. Cover letter
2. CV
3. Fees (detailed list and explanation of fixed and variable costs for the different types of interpretation available, as well as recruitment fee), to be negotiated with UEFA
4. Interpretation policy (containing the rules and working conditions to be respected by UEFA and the interpreters it recruits), to be negotiated with UEFA

Based on the tenders submitted and possible interviews held, a panel of UEFA staff will make and announce their decision by 30 November 2010 at the latest. A mandate agreement will then be signed by UEFA and the successful candidate, in which all the activities, responsibilities and duties of the chief interpreter will be formalised.
