FIFA and UEFA have called on the football community in F.Y.R. Macedonia to "unify and solve its problems through internal dialogue rather than through illegal actions".
Latest statement
A latest statement by the world and European governing bodies, issued on Friday, reads as follows: "FIFA and UEFA have been informed that on 14 April 2007 a small number of football delegates held a meeting to discuss the replacement of the current and duly elected President of the Football Federation of FYR of Macedonia, Haralampie Hadzi-Risteski, and to organise an elective conference on 19 May 2007.
Illegal actions
"The two governing bodies wish to underline that such meetings are not in compliance with the Macedonian association's statutes and therefore any decision or actions taken by such an illegal body against the duly elected leadership and/or administration of the Football Federation of FYR of Macedonia would not be recognised either on a national or an international level. Such illegal actions are serious violations of FIFA and UEFA statutes (Article 17 of the FIFA Statutes and Article 7 of the UEFA Statutes) and may therefore lead to the suspension of the Football Federation of FYR of Macedonia and a consequent ban on participation in any international competition.
Clear FIFA/UEFA position
"Today's announcement reaffirms the clear position of FIFA and UEFA already expressed on 22 March 2007 by FIFA President Joseph S Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini, when they assured the current and duly elected leadership of the Football Federation of FYR of Macedonia of their full support and condemned the Macedonian government's repeated interference in football. Both football bodies invite the F.Y.R. Macedonian football family to unify and solve its problems through internal dialogue rather than through illegal actions."
