Chicago 2016 Bid Could Suffer

The Chicago Sun Times reports that a contentious issue has come up which could affect Chicago?s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. According to the newspaper, some observers say there?s resentment by other nations over the United State?s share of Olympic funds and it could dampen support for an American games.
United States Olympic Committee (USOC) head Peter Ueberroth, speaking at a meeting of Olympic-affiliated groups in Beijing Thursday, ?balked? at changing the formula that gives the USOC a greater share of Olympic dollars.
The USOC receives 13 per cent of U.S. TV rights fees and 20 per cent of global marketing revenues, but according to the USOC the wealthy U.S. market is a prime driving force behind the success of the Games.
When asked if the USOC gets too much revenue Ueberroth said, ?clearly, no?.
The newspaper reports that this week 28 Olympic federations ? members of which could vote or influence the 2009 vote for the 2016 Games - publicly complained about the financial arrangement. But Chicago 2016 spokesman said, ?we believe that the best bid is going to win?.
