It has been confirmed that a UEFA licence will not be required for anyone hoping to show UEFA EURO 2008? matches on regular-sized television screens or at private viewings.

Fun for all
Martin Kallen, COO of Euro 2008 SA has announced that the importance of UEFA EURO 2008? is such that UEFA did not want to render it inaccessible. "The UEFA European Football Championship has become far more than a football tournament consisting of 31 matches,? said Kallen. ?Nowadays, it is a festival that everyone can take part in. We want the whole of Europe to join in the fun. The licence requirements are, therefore, deliberately being kept simple and transparent."

Commercial viewings
The news will be welcomed by supporters intending to throw UEFA EURO 2008? parties at home. A UEFA licence will only be necessary for commercial viewings or non-commercial viewings on screens measuring more than three metres diagonally - although such licences will be granted for free. If, for example, an entry fee is charged or sponsors are associated with the event then the fee will depend on the size of the screen (?6 per square metre per match). Licence applications can be made via www.euro2008.com starting this summer, from a date to be announced shortly. All revenue generated by licence fees will be donated to a charitable cause, to be used for fan-related projects. Special rules apply for events in the official fan zones in the host cities and UBS-sponsored public viewing arenas.
