Pan American Games Test For Rio 2016 Bid

The Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro this July is being seen as a huge test for Brazil to prove it is capable of hosting major international sporting events, including the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
The Associated Press reports that Brazilians are ?crossing their fingers? hoping the event will go off without major problems.
According to the Associated Press preparations haven?t gone smoothly, with severe construction delays and cost overruns, and there have been ?repeated waves of gang violence?.
Brazil has also experienced major air traffic problems which caused massive flight cancellations and delays, and there is also a possibility of an outbreak of dengue fever which is a concern to the 5,500 athletes from 42 countries competing in the Pan American Games July 13-29.
Soccer star Pele told local media last week, ?from what I hear it?s not looking good right now. Unfortunately there is a high possibility the stadiums won?t be ready in time. That wouldn?t be a good visiting card?.
Carlos Roberto Osorio, secretary-general of Rio?s Pan American Games organizing committee said, ?the Games are being planned so they will improve Rio de Janeiro?s ability to host high-profile international events. They will serve as a test for Brazil as it aspires to host the World Cup and the Olympic Games in the future?.
