2014 Commonwealth Games Bid Cities Get More Sponsors

Just before Abuja and Glasgow hand in their bid documents to the Commonwealth Games Federation in London Wednesday the two bid cities announce more sponsors.
Nigeria announced that Afribank Nigeria is now an official sponsor and has give the bid committee about N7 million to become the first bank to officially be associated with the Abuja 2014 bid committee and now has all the rights and privileges of an official sponsor.
ThisDay reports it is expected that the bank will be part of the contingent in London for Wednesday?s official presentation of Nigeria?s bid .
Patrick Ukah, whose company Gazelle Consults Nigeria Limited is marketing the bid, said the coming of Afribank as one of the official sponsors signified the beginning of good things to come as the event gathers momentum. He said, ?we expect more corporate bodies to identify with the bid process as this is the only way we can tell the world that we are ready and capable of hosting our sister commonwealth nations come 2014?. Ukah said more sponsors of the bid will be unveiled in the days ahead.
One of the world?s largest drink companies has been announced by the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games bid committee as a major supporter of Glasgow?s bid.
The company, with 4,000 employees across Scotland, will now be able to use the official bid brand and tartan to promote the bid to its customers and staff throughout Scotland.
Glasgow 2014 bid director Derek Casey said, ?as we enter the final straight in the race for the 2014 Games I am absolutely delighted that one of the largest companies in the world has thrown its considerable weight behind Scotland?s bid. Winning the games would be an incredible result for our city and our country.
?This week we submit our final plans to the games federation. They will show that we are going to put on a show that the whole world will want to watch, one that will help athletes have the performance of their lives. Diageo are the latest big name to join the team. Thousands of Scots, companies and organizations have backed the bid. Working together we can win these games for Scotland?.
Some of Diageo?s famous drinks include Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Guinness and Baileys. Other major supporters of the bid are BBC Scotland, Clydesdale Bank, First Group, Highland Spring and 02.
