Glasgow 2014 Complains About Nigeria?s Criticism

Berwickshsire Today reports that leaders of Glasgow?s bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games will be making representations to the Commonwealth Games Federation regarding remarks made by Nigeria?s Sports Minister Bala Kaoje.
Kaoje, speaking about the levels of crime and poverty in Glasgow, reportedly said, ?if you take the statistics for crime in Scotland, and compare it with the crimes in Abuja, Abuja will be better off. The type of amenities enjoyed by Glasgow citizens is less. I am sure we will beat them in terms of presentation?.
Derek Casey, bid director for Glasgow 2014, said those comments broke the rules which forbid cities bidding for the Games from commenting on a rival bid. He said, ?our view is quite clear, the rules of bidding for the Commonwealth Games state rival cities should not make direct comments about one another?.
He added, ?it is unfortunate that according to reports the Nigerian sports minister has chosen to ignore both this protocol and the comparative indicators in his own country?.
