Infront Sports & Media has won the worldwide media rights to all FIS World Cup events of the German Skiing Association (Deutscher Skiverband - DSV) covering the Alpine and Nordic disciplines, Freestyle and Snowboard as well as other DSV events. The exclusive agreement is effective from the start of the 2007/08 season and runs for a period of four years through the 2010/11 season.
This is a significant strategic addition to Infront’s already strong position in the marketing of skiing’s top annual event series.
Germany is a key player in the international skiing scene, as well as one of the world’s biggest commercial markets. The agreement gives the Infront Group important rights, which will enable the company to offer broadcasters the FIS World Cup as a streamlined television product, thus providing viewers continuity throughout the winter season.
Alfons Hörmann, DSV President, said: “This agreement demonstrates the great appeal and value of the DSV skiing properties. It will allow us to develop the sport to an even higher level and - at the same time - to reach the commercial targets outlined in our successful strategy. Infront is the ideal professional partner for us, with a proven track record in international skiing.”
The agreement was negotiated by Infront Sports & Media and its Milan-based subsidiary Infront Italy (formerly Media Partners). The Infront Group is the commercial partner of more than 80% of all national skiing federations (19 national federations) as well as several local organising committees. With its strong market position in skiing, the company can offer the best FIS World Cup opportunities from one central source.
“With most key media rights to the FIS World Cup under one umbrella we are now able to create an enhanced media showcase for the best men and women skiers in the world. This will also help to further raise the profile of the DSV properties including such exciting events as the alpine races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen or the 4-hill tournament ski jumping in Oberstdorf,” said Marco Bogarelli, Member of the Board of the Infront Group. “The opportunities for broadcasters are now greatly enhanced, making the events even more attractive to sponsors, organisers and the fans.”
