Sports agent Joel Segal, whose clients include National Football League players Reggie Bush and Michael Vick, sold his company, Worldwide Football Inc., to private equity firm Blue Equity LLC.
The Louisville, Kentucky-based Blue Equity, which owns sports-related properties including SFX Worldwide and Blackwave Media Group, acquired Segal's Worldwide Football to become a leader in NFL representation, the company said in a statement yesterday.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The purchase broadens Blue Equity's reach in professional sports as Segal's company has negotiated about $1 billion in NFL contracts.
``He's not only one of the leading football agents, he's one of the top 20 sports agents in the world,'' Blue Equity Chairman Jonathan Blue said of Segal in a telephone interview yesterday.
Segal will join Blue Equity as president of its new football division, the company said. About 50 clients are joining Segal in the move, including former Heisman Trophy winner Bush along with Pro Bowl selections Vick, DeAngelo Hall, and Muhsin Muhammad.
Blue Equity's SFX division represents tennis players including Andy Roddick and Justin Henin. Its Blackwave group provides management services to National Basketball Association players such as three-time All-Star Rasheed Wallace.
