Salzburg's Renaissance Hotel was the venue for the second UEFA EURO 2008™ sponsor workshop following a successful first meeting in Nyon in 2006.
Successful event
The workshop, chaired by Philippe Margraff, COO of UEFA Marketing & Media Management, allowed the whole sponsor family to gather together for the first time since the sponsorship programme was completed. UEFA took the opportunity to share key event and marketing developments in Nyon last November, and all parties welcomed another opportunity to exchange ideas in Austria this week. The event concluded today after three days of presentations and smaller working group sessions on a variety of topics.
Key developments
Key developments included discussions of a Trophy Tour which would travel far beyond the borders of Austria and Switzerland, with a trip to Asia mooted. The trophy may also do a tour of the Fan Zones at the finals, with representatives of seven of the eight host cities attending the workshop in order to meet up and discuss tactics with the sponsors. Former Liverpool FC and Olympique Lyonnais coach Gérard Houllier was a special guest at the event, giving his thoughts on "managing a successful team" as they finalised their plans for UEFA EURO 2008™.
Special guests
Representatives from the six EUROTOP sponsors (Carlsberg, Coca-Cola, JVC, MasterCard, Hyundai-Kia, McDonald's), the four Event Sponsors (adidas, BenQ, Castrol and Continental), the four Swiss National Supporters (Hublot, Ferrero, Swisscom, UBS) and their four Austrian counterparts (Austria Post, Hublot, Telekom Austria, UniCredit) were among more than 100 attendees.
