The citizens of the Swiss city of Berne will vote on 17 June to decide whether to approve spending EUROS 3.4m of public money on plans for hosting games at UEFA EURO 2008™.
Sole referendum
Berne is the only one of the eight host cities for the finals where the decision over public funding will be put to a vote. Prospects are good for the referendum with all of the major political groupings supporting the proposed loan for UEFA EURO 2008™. Euro 2008 SA chief operating officer Martin Kallen said: "We will assess the situation after the vote. There's a possibility that the matches won't be played in Berne if there's a negative outcome."
