The 17 cities which will be equipped with a UBS Arena for public viewing - the so-called "fifth Swiss stadium" - during UEFA EUR0 2008™ have been selected.
Ideal conditions
Venues will be built in Aarau, Biel, Buchs, Chur, Glarus, Kreuzlingen, Lausanne, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Locarno, Lugano, Nyon, Sion, St. Gallen, Solothurn, Thun, Winterthur and Zug. The arenas will offer covered stands, standing room and a giant LED screen - ideal conditions in which fans will be able to enjoy UEFA EURO 2008™ matches.
'Football fest'
Officials in the selected cities were delighted to hear they had been chosen from among 38 cities bidding for UBS Arenas. "With the UBS Arena, we can now offer our local residents the chance to be part of this football feast," said Biel city premier Hans Stoeckli. The selected cities were the ones that had presented the most convincing concepts with organisers ensuring that the UBS Arenas would be evenly distributed throughout every part of the country. Two will be located in Ticino, four in Romandy and eleven in German-speaking Switzerland. Organisers are trying to develop a made-to-measure concept for each individual city.
