Tight Race For 2014 Winter Games, Rogge Says

While saying all three bids for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games were of a very high quality, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge predicted Thursday the race for the 2014 Games would be “tight”.
PyeongChang, Salzburg and Sochi are the three cities bidding to host the 2014 Games.
Rogge told reporters during a teleconference, “I suppose it will be very close. I expect it to be as close as in Singapore (for the 2012 Games election). What really makes the difference is the confidence they (IOC members) have in the people. The human factor will make the difference in the bids”.
Local support for PyeongChang and Sochi is reportedly high but Salzburg’s bid is drawing a lower percentage of interest locally, which was of concern by the IOC during a recent evaluation commission report. Rogge said that was an issue for IOC members to evaluate prior to the vote, but added that opinion poll results tended to change. He said this is a cyclical issue. Opinion polls are fluctuating”.
