Bahrain to host World Children's Games in 2010

Bahrain has won the right to host the World Children's Games in 2010. A representative committee presented the kingdom's bid to host the event to the General Assembly of the International Children's Games (ICG) in Reykjavik, Iceland. "We are pleased to announce that the 2010 International Children's Games will be in held in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain," announced ICG president Torsten Rasch.
"The Manama 2010 ICG Bid Committee communicated a strong presentation that convinced the ICG Assembly of their ability to host the world's youth in the Kingdom of Bahrain," added Rasch.
The review of Bahrain's bid took place on Tuesday, a day before the opening ceremony of the 41st Games in Reykjavik Wednesday.
General Organisation for Youth and Sports president Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa called the Manama 2010 Bid Team to congratulate them on the successful presentation for the ICG to be held in Bahrain.
"Bahrain is ready to host the International Children's Games in 2010. As the first Arab country to compete in the International Children's Games in 2005 we are pleased to have received the confidence of the ICG Executive Committee to be the first Arab country to host the Games," said Shaikh Fawaz.
"We are content that we were successful in our bid to host the Games in 2010," announced Waheed Al Doy, head of the Bahrain delegation.
Bahrain, which is being represented by the city of Manama has 13 athletes competing at the Reykjavik Games in athletics, handball and golf.
"Bahrain's mission for the 2010 Games will be to assist the ICG in their goals to continue to promote friendship, sportsmanship, understanding and goodwill between the youth attending the games," noted Dr Saeed Ahmed Hussain a member of the Games Bid Committee.
"The Bahrain International Children's Games will be organised as a youth meeting place where the youth of the world will be representatives of goodwill, peace, and co-operation. The games will seek to promote the noble ideal of building friendship through sports to the world's youth," noted Anne Radic, director of the 2010 Games and a member of the Bahrain Bid Committee.
"The focus of the Games is to involve the Bahrain community either as a participant, volunteer or spectator," added Radic.
