LeadDog Marketing Group has acquired Atlanta-based EPIC, an international sports event consultancy that specializes in large-scale sports event planning and operations services. EPIC has worked for numerous international properties including the last seven Olympic Games, two FIFA World Cups, the Pan Am Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. This acquisition marks LeadDog’s continued expansion in the realm of sports marketing, as well as the growth of its infrastructure with an office now based in the Southeast.

EPIC has a far-reaching reputation providing strategic analysis and planning for large-scale sporting events and will keep its name due to its existing reputation within the international sports business industry. Alan Shaw founded EPIC in 1996 and will continue to serve as Managing Director. Alan has more than 24 years of sports management and agency experience, including planning, execution and advisory services for more than 100 sporting events, tradeshows, concerts, festivals and corporate hospitality events in twelve countries spanning five continents. Before founding EPIC, Alan worked for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games and the 1994 FIFA World Cup USA organizing committee, as well as for numerous other sports management and event marketing entities developing and implementing marketing efforts and operations plans.

“In addition to EPIC being a great fit with LeadDog in terms of capabilities, this acquisition makes sense because of Alan’s passionate, hands-on approach to the business, which aligns so well with LeadDog’s”, says Dan Mannix, President and CEO of LeadDog. “First and foremost, our agency is about our people. Alan Shaw has the integrity and experience that we are looking for in our people. We are really excited about this new partnership and the promise it holds to provide strategic services for brands and sports properties.”

Alan Shaw adds that "EPIC is thrilled to join forces with one of the fastest-growing, hardest-working and most creative sports marketing and brand promotion agencies in the business. This partnership will enable LeadDog to expand its services domestically and to provide exciting, new opportunities in the international arena as well."

Other recent LeadDog endeavors in the sports universe include bringing Bill Schoonmaker on as a partner and Vice President, Client Partnerships in December (Schoonmaker has nearly twenty years of client and agency side experience in negotiating, managing and activating partnerships in professional, collegiate and amateur (Olympic) sports, most recently as the Management Director at 361° Sports + Event Marketing) and the recent addition of NASCAR to LeadDog’s client list. LeadDog will be managing NASCAR’s 2007 Champions Week in New York City in November.
