OCA Head Wants Either Tokyo Or Doha For 2016 Games Bid

Kyodo reports Olympic Council of Asia President Sheikh Amhad Al-Fadad Al-Sabah said Friday that narrowing the choice to one candidate city, either Tokyo or Doha, will give Asia a better chance to win the race for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. He said he wants a meeting between the two cities to decide which city should bid.
“I will talk to the two candidates, Tokyo and Doha, to encourage them to realize a meeting. I am sure that a sole candidate from Asia will have a bigger chance to win rather than two”.
Ahmad says in his role as a mediator he hoped to realize a “bilateral or trilateral meeting by the end of this year”, but said he was uncertain what conclusions, if any, would be drawn by doing so”.
Kyodo reports Tokyo is considered a strong candidate by the OCA because of its proven record of hosting the 1964 Olympics and sound infrastructure while Doha is not seen as a favourite.
