TWI, the sport production arm of IMG Media, has announced details of its satellite and facilities deals for production and distribution of Premier League matches and associated programming for the next three seasons.

TWI has awarded contracts to four separate satellite suppliers to increase the quality of its satellite distribution system and backup procedures.

Eurovision will provide distribution of HD matches in Europe and Asia while Arqiva, Globecast, and PBL/BT will provide distribution of SD matches and associated programming in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.

Using Tandberg’s DVB-S2 encoders and encryption system will vastly improve signal and picture quality. Nearly half the matches will be available on two satellites in each region, further improving the resilience of the delivery system.

TWI has been the Premier League's producer and distributor of its international coverage since 1998, operating from mediahouse, studio and post-production provider for IMG Media, based in Chiswick, West London.

IMG Media Head of Operations and Engineering, David Shield, said: “Premier League Football is a premium product that demands the very highest quality for distribution. I am delighted that the Premier League has felt able to make the investment to achieve this. Despite the complexity of the offering, all the companies we selected were able to demonstrate their technical competence and ability to offer the highest level of service.”

Graham Fry, Managing Director of TWI Production, said: “Premier League Production’s choice of mediahouse as their facilities provider is testament to the excellent service they have provided over the past nine seasons. Their ability to offer facilities for up to ten simultaneous matches is without parallel.”

TWI’s deal with the Barclays Premier League offers international licensees all 380 matches each season live via satellite, including 92 in HD. It also covers weekly production of a highlights show, a midweek magazine and a Friday night preview programme – 900 hours of production in total per season.

The Premier League is broadcast in over 160 countries with a global home reach in excess of 570 million, making it the world’s most watched domestic league competition.
