Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee To Be Established

Russian officials announced Wednesday that the Sochi Olympic Organizing Committee (SOOG) will be established as early as September.
Sochi 2014 also announced the next steps for the transition period between now and September.
Herman Gref, The Minister of Economic Development and Trade, said, “we have identified our objective as passing the Olympic law by September and setting up the Organizing Committee the same month”.
The Organizing Committee’s first objectives will be marketing, finance and planning.
Gref outlined the importance of tight financial control for the 2014 Games ensuring that all tenders will be transparent. He said, “effective budget expenditure is our first priority at this stage. We will create an unprecedented scheme of control”.
The Sochi 2014 committee talked about the efficient management of the transition period between the bid committee and the organizing committee. Dmitry Chernyshenko, CEO of the Sochi 2014 bid committee said, “a detailed plan of works for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will be ready by August 6 for the transition period. In the meantime Sochi is getting ready to host the very first IOC Coordination Committee visit August 25-27.
“In true partnership with the IOC we are 100 per cent focused on the Olympic Games implementation plan. This plan will be examined thoroughly by the IOC and it is our promise to provide a 21st century plan never before seen for an Olympic and Paralympic Games”, said Chernyshenko.
