Youth Games Stepping Stone To India’s 2020 Summer Olympic Bid

India says that hosting the 2014 Youth Games would be “a stepping stone” in its efforts to host the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. India abandoned the idea of bidding for the 2016 Summer Games after its 2014 Asian Games bid failed in Kuwait.
Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi said bidding for the inaugural event was out of the question but he would discuss the possibility of a 2014 bid at its next general meeting.
Kalmadi said, “since we are hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2010 we cannot stage the Youth Olympics in the same year. But since we are planning to bid for 2020 Olympic Games it would be good for us to have the 2014 Games as a stepping stone”.
He said the venue would probably be Delhi or Pune. Pune will be hosting the Commonwealth Youth Games next year.
