Bahrain to begin 2008 F1 season

The 2008 Formula One season will start with the Bahrain Grand Prix, rather than the traditional opening race in Australia, it has been announced.
The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) said the Melbourne race would also start 90 minutes later than usual to cater for European TV viewers.
"This is the best option for our event and the people who support it," said AGPC chairman Ron Walker.
The changes are subject to approval by motorsport's governing body the FIA.
Walker also confirmed that having had initial discussions on the subject with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, they would not be pursuing the idea of staging a night race.
"Our investigations have convinced us that as things currently stand, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages," he said.
"Instead, we have decided to run the F1 race later on Sunday, moving the start time from 1400 local time to 1530.
"We need to ensure all of our partners are comfortable with this and we're working through that process now."
The new time slow means the race will start at 4.30am in the UK rather than the usual 3am.
