With 50 days to go before the opening match of Rugby World Cup 2007 the France 2007 Organising Committee has announced that the two millionth ticket has been sold. The Committee’s objective of a minimum 85% ticket sales target is therefore well on the way to being achieved.

“Rugby World Cup 2007 is well on the way to being the best ever. We have never sold 2 million tickets before so this is an historic milestone for the tournament which is now the third biggest sports event in the world,” said IRB Chairman, Dr Syd Millar.

A delighted Bernard Lapasset, President of the French Rugby Union and the Rugby World Cup 2007 Organising Committee, stated, “With less than two months to go to the kick-off of Rugby World Cup 2007 we are delighted with such success. These ticket sales numbers will mean full stadiums that are alive with excited supporters and busy, colourful streets in all of the Host Cities. More spectators, than ever before in the history of the World Cup, will gather together in the stadiums.”

“A total 2,400,000 tickets have been put on sale since the launch of the first ticket sales phase on November 5 2005, when the first tickets were available as team and city packages. The fact that 2,000,000 tickets have been sold confirms the quality of our ticketing policy which included prices for all budgets, varied offers and an effective sales network”, added Bernard Lapasset.

For anyone that has not yet bought a ticket but would like to participate in the festivities of Rugby World Cup 2007, there is still a chance to do so. More tickets will be put on sale at regular intervals in the near future and announcements on their release will be made.

Rugby fans are reminded that only tickets bought through official Rugby World Cup 2007 sources are valid. Supporters that buy their tickets through non-official sources risk being refused entry to the stadium, being evicted from the stadium or having their tickets cancelled.
