 Bid process for World Games 2013 begins in September

The next edition of the World Games featuring 31 sport will be held in the year 2009 in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei. These games which are being organised by International World Games association are held after every four years one year after the Summer Olympics and one year before the winter Olympics. In year 2005, these games were held in Duisberg, Germany with participation of 3400 athletes.

The IWGA has announced the bid process for the candidate city for the 2013 World games. By August 30, 2007 the candidate host cities must submit their initial bid and completed questionnaires to the IWGA. By September 20, 2007, the IWGA shortlists the candidate host cities which are then invited to submit a detailed bid book. By September 30, 2007 the detailed bid book of the shortlisted Candidate host cities must be available to the IWGA.

On October 20, 2007, meetings between the shortlisted candidate Host Cities and the IWGA will be held to discuss the Host City Contract. Then on November 30, 2008, on the basis of these discussions, the IWGA will inspect the Candidate Host Cities. And by March 1, 2008, the finalized bid for The Ninth World Games 2013 must be available to the IWGA. On March 15, 2008,the IWGA Executive Committee empowers the President and the Secretary General to conclude an agreement with the Host City for the organization of The Ninth World Games 2013.In June 2008, the Annual General Meeting of the IWGA ratifies the agreement.

The 31 disciplines which are not in Olympic games but included in the world games are, Aikido, Air Sports, Archery, Billiards, Body Building, Bowling, ,Canoe Casting Sport, Climbing, Dance Sport, Fistball, Flying Disc, Gymnastics (tumbling), Handball, Indoor Hockey, Ju-Jitsu, Karate, Korfball, Life Saving, Netball, Orienteering, Powerlifting, Racquetball, Roller Sports, Rugby, Squash, Sumo, Surfing, Tug of War, Underwater Sports and Water Ski
