Qatar has been confirmed as the host nation for the 2011 Asian Cup, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Sunday.
The Gulf state was the only country to submit a formal bid to host the event but had to satisfy the AFC of their ability to stage the tournament before being confirmed as hosts.
In view of the fact that India has withdrawn its bid and AFC has not received any bidding document from IR Iran FF as per the terms of bidding issued in January 2007, the AFC Competitions Committee recommended and the AFC Executive Committee accepted and confirmed Qatar FA as the host for AFC Asian Cup 2011.
The AFC Executive Committee, chaired by AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam, met in Jakarta on the sidelines of the AFC Asian Cup 2007 Sunday and took several key decisions, including granting of the hosting rights of the AFC Asian Cup in 2011 to Qatar.
