Hamburg Wants To Bid For 2020 Summer Games

A German publication reports the German Olympic sports league (DOSB) says Hamburg is not in a position to bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games but it supports a 2020 Summer Olympic Games bid,
The Hamburg sports league (HSB) issued a press release saying it will meet with the German Olympic sports league to present an application at a meeting in December 2007. The HSB’s president said there should be a dialogue among all the three German cities interested in bidding for the Olympic Games – Hamburg, Berlin and Munich. He said that among the three cities that want to host the Olympic Games Hamburg is the only “compact” city with more than a million inhabitants that can make a successful bid.
According to the press release an overpowering majority of Hamburg’s population stands behind a bid. All parliamentary groups of Hamburg’s citizenry support the idea.
In the press release the HSB called on all participants in Hamburg to unite to support the bid to improve the city’s “already good conditions” so that the image of Hamburg – a sport city – could improve.
Meanwhile with Munich planning to bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games DOSB head Thomas Bach is to meet with winter sports officials next week and a DOSB decision on a Munich bid is set for early December. The DOSB reportedly has ruled out a bid for the Summer Games in the near future despite interest from Hamburg and Berlin, reports DPA.
