Bank of America Corp., the largest credit-card issuer in the U.S., signed a three-year agreement to become the official bank of the National Football League.
The agreement allows Charlotte, North Carolina-based Bank of America to offer bank products and debit cards that carry some of the league's logos and trademarks, bank spokesman Joe Goode said in a telephone interview. He wouldn't disclose financial terms.
Bank of America is already the official bank of Major League Baseball, Nascar, Minor League Baseball and Little League Baseball. It is also a sponsor of the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Goode said the bank would offer a checking account and check cards with the NFL's shield logo in November and expand existing relationships with four teams: the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Washington Redskins. He said there were no plans to offer accounts tied to additional teams.
MBNA Corp., which Bank of America bought last year, has been the official credit card of the NFL, the U.S.'s most-watched sport, since 1995, Goode said. Credit cards with the logos of the NFL and each of its 32 teams are already issued by the company.
The bank will introduce 20 affinity products tomorrow, including ones for Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals, Goode added.
