EURO 2008 - Final venue awaits finishing touches

Renovation work on Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion will be all but completed in time for Austria's friendly against the Czech Republic on 22 August.
'Foot on the pedal'
The refurbishment was part of a ˆ36.9m project to bring the 76-year-old venue up to the latest standards and Sandra Hofmann, head of the city of Vienna's sports department, said she was delighted with the speedy progress of the work: "We put our foot on the pedal and got the job done," she said. "The stadium will now meet the requirements for top events even after UEFA EURO 2008™ - for example, hosting a UEFA Champions League final."
New measures
The measures taken to bring the stadium up to scratch included installing a new 1,400 lux floodlight system, creating a security operations centre, installing a modern video wall, renovating the toilet facilities, installing an electronic ticket entry system, inserting solar panels and remodeling the VIP area to give it a 960 capacity. Further finishing touches will be added in the run-up to the finals, including improving media facilities and building a second video wall.
