Caribbean Delegation Inspects Abuja 2014 Commonwealth Games Bid

Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs) and National Olympic Committees (NOCs from the Caribbean Islands arrived in Abuja Monday to assess the facilities for Abuja’s 2014 Commonwealth Games bid.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports in Grenada, Mrs. Bruno Victor Vida, said she was delighted that Nigeria is putting up the challenge of bidding for the Games. She said the delegations are in Abuja to see things for themselves as required by the provision of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).
Vida said, “we are here on the invitation of Abuja 2014 bid committee to see things for ourselves before the November 9 General Assembly’s meeting where the winner of the bid will be known”, reports allAfrica.com
Former Head of States and Chairman of the Abuja 2014 Commonwealth Games bid committee, Gen. Yakuba Gowon, said, “it is important that the CGAs and NOCs from the Commonwealth countries visit us. They are the ones that will cast their votes to pick the winner for the 2014 Games so they must be shown the facilities and be convinced that we are capable of hosting the Games”.
The Evaluation Commission, CGF Executive Board, and delegations from Oceania, Asia and the Americas have already visited Nigeria.
