 ECB reveals new Asia TV deal

The ECB and ESPN STAR Sports, Asia’s leading sports broadcaster, have announced a new five-year contract for the exclusive rights to broadcast ECB’s domestic and home international matches across various platforms including television (inclusive of mobile TV), internet and radio.

Apart from covering the core cricket markets of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the contract also provides ESS the broadcast rights throughout the Middle East, China, Japan and the rest of Asia.

The ECB negotiating team was led by Giles Clarke, chairman of the Broadcast and Sponsorship Committee and John Perera, the ECB’s Commercial Director advised by Clive Leach, chairman of Durham CCC.

David Morgan the chairman of the ECB said: “This is a tremendous result for cricket in England and Wales.

"This renewed partnership with a substantial increase in the rights fees will provide both the county and international game as well as the grass roots with funds to develop not only our playing sides but also much needed funds for facility development.

"I would like to congratulate both Giles Clarke and John Perera for their leadership.”

Clarke added: “This deal demonstrates the value of cricket in the Asia region. I would like to thank ESS for the thoroughly professional way that that they have conducted this negotiation.”

Jamie Davis, Managing Director of ESPN STAR Sports, said: “We are proud to continue our decade long relationship with ECB as their broadcast partners.

“This acquisition reaffirms our commitment to the cricket fan. We are Asia’s leading sports broadcaster and this partnership with the ECB along with recent acquisitions like the ICC’s global broadcast & production rights firmly positions ESS as the number one choice for sports fans in Asia for years to come.”

Manu Sawhney, Executive Vice President of Programming & Marketing for ESPN STAR Sports added: “We are delighted to further extend our decade long relationship with ECB for another five years and will continue to provide the best International cricket action to fans across Asia.”
