South East Asian Games broadcasting rights: free for all

Strongly protested against by the National Olympic Committees of nine Southeast Asian nations, the organising board of the 24th SEA Games had to cancel its plan of selling the broadcasting rights for this event.
The Southeast Asian Sports Confederation on September 3 gathered in Bangkok, Thailand to seek solutions for the broadcasting rights for the 24th SEA Games.
Vietnamese representative at the meeting, Hoang Vinh Giang, Vice Chairman cum Secretary General of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, said that up to nine national Olympic Committees protested the idea of selling the broadcasting rights for the 24th SEA Games of the organising board of host country Thailand.
At the meeting, ten of eleven national Olympic Committees signed a document asking the organising board of the 24th SEA Games to obey the rules of the Southeast Asian Sports Federation, under which the broadcasting rights for the 24th SEA Games are provided free of charge for all member countries.
The document stated that if the organising board didn’t agree, the Southeast Asian Sports Federation would take suitable action.
However, at this meeting, the Southeast Asian Sport Federation discussed the future possibility of commercialising the broadcasting rights for the SEA Games. This issue will be further discussed this year’s end.
