Abuja 2014 Commonwealth Bid “Focused”

DPA reports the Abuja 2014 Commonwealth Games Bid Committee says it is focused in its aspiration to secure the hosting rights for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
In a statement Thursday the committee said that arrangements have been concluded to receive delegates of Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs) and National Olympic Committees from Europe Tuesday.
The bid committee will be hosting the CGAs and National Olympic Committees from Europe – mainly delegates from England, Wales, Northern Island, the Isle of Man, Malta, Cyprus, Jersey and Scotland. Other delegates are coming from the Falkland Islands, the Americas, Turks and Caicos, and Montserrate in the Caribbean.
The statement said, “the bid committee reiterates its implicit confidence in the assignment carried out by a bid evaluation team that visited Abuja earlier. This is against the backdrop of the recent report released by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) on technical assessment of proposals presented by the two candidate cities, Abuja and Glasgow. The bid committee is particularly inspired by the assessment made by the evaluation team that Abuja’s proposal achieves a high level of clustering of some venues”.
Committee spokesman John Amangele said that the evaluation team particularly rated the National Stadium in Abuja and its Velodrome as excellent venues for Commonwealth Games.
