Public sector planning for UEFA EURO 2008™ in Switzerland is making good progress with good reports on milestone projects from the first half of 2007.
Ongoing projects
Positive work has been done in the fields of international media work, the host handbook, projects to promote sport and fitness activities, public viewing events, inter-cantonal police operations and the national security concept. Meanwhile the transport concept - one of the showcases for sustainability at the tournament - has already been completed and presented to the public.
Green EURO
Thanks to support from UEFA and Swiss Federal Railways, fans will be able to book tickets for matches and receive a combination ticket valid for 36 hours of travel - part of a project aimed at helping achieve the ambitious goal of having 60 per cent of the long-distance trips and 80 per cent of the local travel at the finals taken on public transportation.
Important dates
Two dates loom large in the remainder of 2007 - the draw for the finals in Lucerne on 2 December and a conference involving the nations involved at the finals in Glattbrugg on 13 and 14 December. This meeting will principally involve those finalists who have land borders with Austrian and Switzerland and will discuss the best ways to achieve international cooperation on security.
