Rio de Janeiro, Monterrey, To Officially Bid For 2016 Games

Rio de Janeiro sent its application to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Friday making its bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games official.
The bid document included a letter and guarantee signed by the Mayor of Rio Cesar Maia, and the President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee Carlos Arthur Nuzman, as well as letters of guarantee signed by the President of the Republic Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio Cabral.
The federal government has promised to cover any financial shortfall that might be incurred by the local Olympic Committee’s finances.
Nuzman said, “it is important to make provisions for any potential problems in advance as well as obtain guarantees from the three levels of government for this project.
“The cooperation of the different governments was crucial for the success of the Pan American and Para Pan American Games in Rio this year and will be truly important if it is to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016”.
Meanwhile Monterrey’s Mayor Adalberto Beam sent a letter of support for Monterrey’s 2016 Summer Olympic Games bid stating that the Municipality of Monterrey is officially behind the bid.
The city is now awaiting a letter from Felipe Munoz Kapamas, President of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) so that both letters can be sent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) before the September 13 deadline.
