Reid, Former U.K. Home Secretary, to Become Chairman of Celtic

John Reid, who left the U.K. government when Gordon Brown became Prime Minister, will replace Brian Quinn as chairman of Scottish soccer champion Celtic.
Quinn will step down at the annual shareholder's meeting on Nov. 17, Glasgow-based Celtic said in a Regulatory News Service statement today.
``I've been a supporter of Celtic for many years and am delighted to be invited to join the board,'' Reid said.
The 60-year-old will stand down as a lawmaker at the next election, ending a parliamentary career that began in 1987. He had spells as secretary for defense, Northern Ireland and transport before becoming Home Secretary. He resigned the post in June when Blair left office.
Quinn has been a Celtic director since March 1996 and became chairman in June 2000. In other changes, Ian Livingston will become a non-executive director on Oct. 1, the same day Reid joins the board. Livingston is Chief Executive Officer of the retail division of BT Group Plc, the biggest provider of fixed-line phone services in the U.K.
