Munich Invests In 2018 Olympic Bid Application

Munich city council has agreed to make 490,000 euro available for the first phase of a possible bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
Another 60,000 is to be spent on a feasibility study, an international technical consultation, and for an expert in the environment, along with other measures to be taken.
A formal application is to be sent to the German Olympic Committee by December 8, 2007 and the committee will them make a decision as to whether Munich will be Germany’s representative in its bid for the 2018 Winter Games.
DPA reported last August that Munich’s bid will be a compact one with three sports clusters. The city of Munich will stage all the ice events, Garmish-Partenkirchen all the snow sports and Koenigsee’s sports will include the bobsled and skeleton.
Olympic Coordinator Wilfrid Spronk said hosting the 2018 Games would cost about 30 million euros.
