Rugby NZ 2011 Ltd (RNZ 2011) has announced the appointment of Williment Travel Group (WTG) as the manager of its exclusive Centralised Booking Agency (CBA) for accommodation services for the Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2011 to be hosted in New Zealand.

This newly created agency will be responsible for negotiating and securing accommodation services for the operational and commercial needs of RWC 2011, including teams, officials, VIP’s, sponsors, media and traveling supporters.

RNZ 2011 Ltd CEO Martin Snedden said the appointment is an important one to ensure that accommodation supply is managed to meet the Tournament’s needs.

“New Zealand’s ability to service the accommodation requirements of RWC 2011 will be a vital component of the successful delivery of the tournament. The CBA will provide an efficient mechanism for bringing together accommodation providers and customers in a coordinated way during a period of high demand.”

In consultation with Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL), the appointment followed a detailed tender process with proposals requested from national and international organisations with experience in this area.

“Williment’s strong relationships in the New Zealand accommodation industry and their experience in previous rugby events were the critical factors in the final decision,” said Mr Snedden.

WTG have been an Official Travel Agent for every RWC since 1987 and are New Zealand’s leading sports and events travel operator. They also played an integral part in the highly successful Lions tour of New Zealand in 2005.

WTG Director Ross Jamieson is looking forward to being involved in this significant project and its associated challenges. “We are very aware that New Zealand’s reputation as a mega event host will depend on the support of the entire New Zealand Tourism Industry and in particular the accommodation sector,” he said.

WTG Director Duncan Garvie is also delighted to be involved in this significant New Zealand Tourism Event. “WTG were the travel and accommodation provider for all the teams and officials for the inaugural RWC in 1987 and the event has evolved tremendously since then. It’s hugely exciting for us to be appointed again, 20 years down the track to assist with the tournament in New Zealand the second time around.”
