Regional Performance Managers - 2 posts Midlands region and South & West region
The England and Wales Cricket board (ECB) is the national governing body for cricket from Playground to Test Arena, and aims to make England the most successful and respected cricket nation in the world.
In order to achieve this ambitious goal the ECB are seeing to appoint 2 additional Regional Performance Managers to play a key role in developing the most talented cricketers in England and Wales below the county Academy Programme. The Regional performance Managers will cover First Class and Non First Class county Boards in England and Wales and be based in the ECB Midlands Region and ECB South & West Region.
You will work closely with Coaches at County Board Age Group Level, Coaches and Managers at Regional Level, England Age Group Coaches, County Academy Directors in the Region and ECB Regional Development Managers. You will have:
The ability to manage and support coaches and others in the design, delivery and monitoring of individual coaching programmes for the most talented male and female young cricketers in England and Wales at sub-County Academy level.
an understanding of sports science and its relationship to high quality coaching;
extensive knowledge and proven experience of developing talented players;
knowledge and awareness of the main principles and philosophies behind Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD);
an understanding and knowledge of the ECB’s Strategic Aims as set out in the ECB’s “Building Partnerships” document;
a minimum of ECB Level III Coaching Qualification (or overseas equivalent);
a commitment to achieving ECB Level IV within 2 years of appointment as a pre-requisite for the position;
excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
experience of IT skills including performance analysis and data collection systems;
excellent organizational, personal time management and people management skills;
JOB DESCRIPTION
Reports to National Performance Manager
1. Purpose of the Job:
To manage and oversee player development programmes at County Age Group and Regional level and provide support and strategic direction to County Cricket Board and Regional Squad Coaches and Managers in the development of the most talented male and female young cricketers aged between 11-17.
2. Principle Responsibilities:
To work alongside County Cricket Boards (CCB’s) in their Region in the design, development, management and monitoring of an “Emerging Players Programme”.
To monitor and audit player development programmes in line with ECB Minimum Quality Standards and CCB Improvement Planning Process
To advise and support CCB’s in the design and structure of CCB District Cricket programmes
To support and liaise with the Head Coaches of the Regional U13, U14, & U15 Squads.
To advise and support county Age Group Coaches within their Region on individual player development programmes.
To liaise with County Academy Directors within their Region and National Age Group Coaches at U15, U17 & U19 level
To undergo initial and continuing professional development in the area of Long Term Athlete Development through ECB Training and other related CPD programmes.
To chair and organise bi-annual Performance meetings involving coaches involved in talented player development from within their region.
To work within Regional Management groups to ensure integrated, consistent and coherent support packages to CCB’s
3. Facts and Figures:
There are between 210 - 220 players between the ages of 13 and 19 attend the 18 First Class County Academies.
There are approximately 3500 young players between the ages of 11-17 within the County Age Group Programme.
There are approximately 10,000 players within CCB District Cricket programmes
A proposed “Emerging Players Programme” would identify between potentially talented young players between the ages of 11-17 which underpin and support the 18 ECB Accredited County Academies for additional support.
4 Nature and Scope of Job:
A. Job Context:
The vision for cricket in England and Wales is to become and remain the most successful and respected cricket nation in the World.
In order to achieve this ambitious target the England and Wales Cricket Board will be focusing on achieving the following four main objectives for the period 2006 - 2010:
Effective leadership and governance
A vibrant domestic game
Enthusing participation and following particularly amongst young people
Establishing and maintaining successful England Teams
The quality and sustainability of the England Team is dependant on the strength and nature of the development systems which support it. Both County Cricket and the National Academy directly feed players into the National Squad which in turn are supported by the 18 First Class County Academies. The National Age Group Programme must act as supporting systems to these elite programmes through well designed, managed and monitored programmes of individual player and team development.
The Regional Performance Officer will be specifically responsible for supporting the County Age Group and Regional Programmes in the development of the most talented players to be included on the County Academy Programme.

5. Competency Criteria
Responsibility – Accountable for ensuring that Players and Coaches follow the “Emerging Players”, County Age Group and District Cricket programmes at County Board level.
Customer Focus – Players, parents and Coaches at County Board and Recreational level.
Essential Experience – Proven success of developing and managing talented players and their programmes
Specialist Knowledge -
Holder of current ECB Level III Coaching Award (or overseas equivalent) and to have the potential of achieving Level IV by September 2008/09/
A current full UK Driving License.
Knowledge and awareness of the main principles and philosophies behind Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD).
Good IT skills including knowledge of performance analysis systems.
Decision Making – Capability to make decisions which have short to medium term impact but also have the capacity to demonstrate long term planning for performance.
Scale of Job – Regional responsibility on a day to day basis.
Autonomy – Responsible for own programme and time management.
Complexity – Ability to multi-take across county Boards within Region and problem solve
Relationships – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with both internal and external contacts
ECB Knowledge – Excellent knowledge of ECB Strategy for cricket in England and Wales
Span of Authority – No Regional budgetary responsibilities
