The England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) Science and Medicine Department aims to, “Optimise England's best players’ availability and performance through the provision of the cricket's best science and medicine services.” As part of this drive, the ECB is seeking applications from extensively experienced Physiotherapists. Reporting directly to the Head of Science and Medicine, the post holder will join the Science and Medicine Management Team working closely with the National Leads for S&C;, Psychology, Performance Lifestyle and the Chief Medical Officer to provide integrated support to all England Teams and Squads. The post holder will have specific responsibility for England Performance Programme / Lions players’ Physiotherapy. He / she will also be responsible for leading the achievement of two of ECB Science and Medicine’s strategic objectives, (i) to minimise the impact of injury and illness on the availability and performance of England squads and, (ii) to engage, lead and, quality assure a national network of physiotherapists delivering to England and First Class County Squads. You will manage 3 Physiotherapists, a massage therapist, injury surveillance officer and, have responsibility for the Physiotherapy budgets. The position also offers the opportunity to develop new research and innovation projects and contribute to existing ones. The post requires considerable travel within the UK and some overseas travel. You will be based at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough when not on duty with the England Performance Programme / Lions. You will need first class clinical skills and extensive experience (working within a multidisciplinary team) of the provision of Physiotherapy to elite athletes / high performing teams is essential. The successful applicant will have a successful track record of developing practitioners. The post will provide the opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their leadership, strategic and operational management with appropriate support and professional development. You must have qualification and registration as a Chartered Physiotherapist and, preferably a post graduate qualification in Sports Medicine / Rehabilitation. Job Description 1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB Enable ECB Science and Medicine to: (i) Minimise the impact of injury and illness on the availability and performance of England squads. (ii) Ensure England players at all levels are physically the best prepared in world cricket. (iii) Engage, lead and quality assure a national network of Physiotherapists delivering to England and First Class County squads. The clinical practice element of the role will be mainly focused on providing Physiotherapy support to the England Performance Programme and Lions Team at home and overseas on tour. Whilst the National Lead Physiotherapist reports to the Head of Science and Medicine, he / she also has a responsibility to report to the England Team Director and Performance Director regarding the delivery of Physiotherapy services to programmes. 2. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES · Lead the operations of the Physiotherapy discipline to efficiently and effectively achieve the Science and Medicine department objectives · Work closely with National Coaches to design and develop integrated support programmes · Performance manage the ECB Physiotherapy Team including the Loughborough University Biomechanics PhD candidate, the Injury Surveillance Officer and auxiliary therapists e.g. massage therapists, Pilates practitioners and occupational therapists · Manage the deployment of ECB and consultant Physiotherapy staff with ECB squads and programmes. This may include the National Lead working with the England Teams for periods · As a core member of the ECB Medical Panel ensure that: o All injuries to centrally contracted players (and whenever possible, incremental contract players) that prevent the player from fully participating in play, practice or training will be promptly and comprehensively assessed o Liaise with ECB CMO regarding best practice for assessing and planning the treatment of significant injuries within 48 hours (24 hours whenever possible) of the injury being reported o In consultation with the FCCC, discuss and agree with the injured player with whom and where they undertake their rehabilitation o Written programmes of treatment are established for all injured centrally contracted players, and when appropriate incremental contract and England Performance Programme players, in consultation with their clubs. o All players are given the opportunity to discuss their views on the best course of injury management, and ensure the player understands and consents to the agreed rehabilitation programme o Monitor the rehabilitation programme, the practitioner(s) delivering it, and the injured player’s progress. Recommend changes in the course of treatment and the provider if not satisfied with the quality of care or progress at any stage · Attend weekly Medical Panel meetings at the NCPC to review all centrally contracted, incrementally contracted and England Performance Programme players plus any matters arising · Ensure the formal handover of information relating to ECB players’ injury management and prevention when they enter and leave ECB programmes · Develop and manage the Physiotherapy discipline’s partnerships with external organisations such as the FCCC and EIS to provide seamless support from County Academies to England Teams · Manage the Physiotherapy discipline budget (including consultant cover, equipment, and supply purchases) for all ECB programmes · Lead the development and communication of appropriate protocols, standards and systems within the Physiotherapy discipline · Attend monthly Science & Medicine Management Team meetings · Work with the EIS to manage and quality assure Physiotherapy provision to the Women’s squad of players through the EIS regional network · Enable the delivery of Physiotherapy related, and performance focused, research programmes as prioritised by Science and Medicine Management Team and National Coaching staff · Ensure adherence of all ECB and related e.g. County and EIS, staff to central reporting / data base requirements · Work with the ECB Injury Surveillance Officer to produce an annual injury surveillance report that includes recommendations for injury prevention and management · Ensure medical records on all ECB players are entered on the Performance Profiler database · Lead development and upgrading of the Performance Profiler database · Work with partner organisations to develop and supply cricket equipment, clothing and footwear that minimises injury risk and optimises performance · In consultation with the Head of Science and Medicine, submit (through the NCPC Manager) a report to the Director of England Cricket within 2 weeks of the end of each section of the programme · Undertake appropriate professional development to keep abreast of world’s best practice · Liaise closely with the Head of Science and Medicine, and be prepared to undertake any other duties related to the work of these functions including overseas travel for extended periods of time 3. NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB a) Job Context The aim of the ECB Science and Medicine is to optimise England's best players' availability and performance through the provision of cricket's best science and medicine services. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE Essential: · Qualification and registration as a Chartered Physiotherapist with post graduate qualifications in Sports Medicine/Rehabilitation to Masters level · Extensive experience of working in world class sport including the provision of services to senior National Teams · Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams preferably in high performance sport. · Flexibility towards work schedules, willingness to travel abroad and within the UK. · Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (including presentation skills) · Experience of managing a support team · Basic life support training within the past two years · Full Driving Licence · Computer competence, including MS office, Databases and performance analysis software Desirable: · Experience of coordinating/managing Physiotherapy Support Services to High Performance Sports · Gold level accreditation with the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine · Research and development experience in high performance sport, injury prevention or rehabilitation strategies · Advanced information technology skills · Experience in the preparation and delivery of CPD Workshops and conference presentations · On-field emergency management qualifications Due to the requirements of this role and the responsibilities assigned to the post holder, successful applicants will undergo a screening process that will include an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure.
