The cost of staging the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is set to soar to more than £450m.
The original budget for the Games was £373m but BBC Scotland reports that another £80m will now have to be found as a result of the global recession.
The lion’s share of the money is expected to come from the Scottish government and Glasgow City Council and at least some will be used to broadcast the event on high definition TV.
Despite the likely increase in funding, the figure of £450m is still a fraction of the estimated £12bn it will cost to put on the 2012 Olympics in London.
In October, Glasgow 2014 appointed Marque Creative to develop the brand identity for the Games.
