JSPORTS has been handed the Japanese broadcast rights to the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
The deal, announced by Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL), follows the decision to award the 2019 tournament to Japan – the first time the event will be staged in Asia.
RWCL said the broadcast deal for 2011 means that more people than ever before will be able to watch the Rugby World Cup on JSPORTS’ terrestrial, internet and mobile platforms.
RWCL managing director Mike Miller added: “We are delighted that JSPORTS has been appointed rights holders for Japan. Rugby in Japan is on a high following the announcement that the country will host RWC 2019 and JSPORTS, with its extensive broadcast experience of rugby and commitment to the game, will ensure the perfect platform for RWC 2011 to reach out to new audiences across Japan.”
RWC 2007 in France reached a global television audience of 4 billion. The 2011 tournament kicks off on September 9, 2011.
