The Renault Formula One team could sell a 40 per cent stake to a mystery Russian bidder.
Reports in Germany suggest that the team, which is still considering its future in F1 following the Nelson Piquet Jr race fixing scandal, needs to urgently raise Euros 30m if it is to stay in the sport.
Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat, which broke the news about the possible 40 per cent sale, claimed that any deal could result in Russian Vitaly Petrov signing to become Robert Kubica’s team-mate for next season.
The pole has agreed to replace Fernando Alonso at the French team after the former double world champion moved to Ferrari.
Renault lost team principal Flavio Briatore and executive director of engineering Pat Symonds earlier this year when both were banned over the Piquet crash scandal at last year’s Singapore Grand Prix.
