The PSA, the men’s squash tour body, has announced a ‘Super Series’ event for next year as part of its makeover of the sport.
The Daily Telegraph reports that the top eight players over the year will qualify for a season-ending tournament in December with the winner being crowed Super Series champion.
The season will kick off in January with the long-established Tournament of Champions in New York and the British Open, the oldest event in the sport, will be included as one of eight top-tier events.
PSA chief executive Alex Gough said: “This will provide a new focus for our leading events. It makes every event special and you can tie narrative across all the events by looking back and comparing, which the tour hasn’t been able to do in the past.”
The PSA has been looking at ways to modernise the men’s game since Ziad Al-Turki, the Saudi businessman and PSA chairman, first got involved with squash in 2005.
