Sky Italia grabs Rugby World Cup rights 25/11/2009

Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL) has handed Sky Italia the Italian broadcast rights to the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
The company already holds the rights to the Tri Nations, Heineken Cup and RBS Six Nations from 2010, as well as the next two football World Cups and the next four Olympic Games.
Sky Italia chief executive Tom Mockridge said: “This agreement confirms our continued commitment towards rugby, a sport to which popular attention is strongly increasing in Italy. Having broadcast Rugby World Cup 2007, we are proud to be broadcasting Rugby World Cup 2011 in high definition, enriching the coverage for viewers.”
RWCL managing director Mike Miller added: “Rugby continues to grow in popularity and participation throughout Italy and with its extensive rugby broadcast experience and commitment to the promotion of the sport, Sky Italia will provide the perfect platform to engage new audiences in Italy.”
